About
Our origins
The Burroughs family farm spans generations, starting with our founder – most of us know him as our great grandfather – and just a few cows and pigs. From generation to generation, as a family, we have been entrusted to bring the business forward, developing the farm to continue to be an asset to the local community.
That’s how we came to be what we are today – a working dairy farm, luxury holiday retreat, farm shop, and kitchen.
We feel incredibly lucky to be in this unique working environment, working together but in our own respective roles while also collectively running the business – that’s farming for you!
While we may feel the stresses of being a family business from time to time, sharing a coffee each morning before the workday begins is something we all value, and having the opportunity to carry forward what our great grandparents, grandparents, and parents built fills us with immense pride.

At 18, he honed his pastry skills at Australia’s Versace Hotel, then expanded his expertise in New Zealand. Back in England, he refined his craft at The Ritz London and Annabel’s. Most recently, he worked as a private chef in Suffolk before joining us at Wheatacre Hall.

The burroughs family
The Burroughs family works together to keep the farm running, with each member playing a vital role. David, the head farmer, still rises at 4 a.m. every morning to feed the cows, a tradition he shares with his son, Jamie, who also manages the dairy production side of things with the support of his wife, Kayleigh, and their daughter, Tabitha. Joanna juggles looking after the barn-conversion holiday lets and running the Pantry, while Lindsay takes care of the farm admin and, together with her husband, Alistair, helps run the wholesale milk business and the Farmhouse Kitchen. With everyone pitching in, the Burroughs family takes pride in producing quality food and welcoming visitors with warmth and care.

What we do
At our heart, we are primarily a busy dairy farm, milking a herd of just under 500 pedigree cows. Yet, with a collection of diversified businesses attached to the farm, we are all doing different things but sharing in that goal of driving the family business forward for future generations.
At the Farmhouse Kitchen, we’re guided by our own purpose, story, and goals. Every day, we’re dedicated to creating a welcoming, personal experience for our customers. We hope everyone who dines with us leaves with full bellies, happy hearts, and a little extra positivity. Being part of our community means a lot to us, and we’re proud to offer value for money and serve food of the highest quality. Our farm-to-fork approach reflects this, as we work closely with local partners who share our values.

The Farm
Our farm has been in the family for a long, long time – generations, for that matter. Today, the farm is focused on our milking herd, producing milk for Arla and a cluster of local businesses. When visiting The Farmhouse Kitchen for a bite to eat or a catch-up over a coffee, you’ll be able to taste the bounty of our farm as we use our own produce to create plenty of scrumptious creations.
Staying true to our roots, the farm is and will always be part of our multi-generational family business. Being part of this farming legacy has helped us to realise how incredibly lucky we are, the importance of supporting one another, and teaching us how to work as a team. We know this is something special and we want to share it with you all.

The Barns
Alongside The Farmhouse Kitchen and Pantry, we also have the Wheatacre Hall Barns on our land. These luxury barns are available as holiday lets, allowing you to stay with us and soak up the countryside environment for a well-deserved break.
Guests at our barn will also have breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea fulfilled with the on-site Farmhouse Kitchen.
